About 30% of the cases suffering from Zollinger-Ellison syndrome also suffer from MEN1 (Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia 1) disease. Following conditions may be kept in mind while diagnosing ZE syndrome:
- Elevated serum gastrin
- Achlorhydria
- Chronic renal failure
- Drug-induced (usually omeprazole)
- Duodenal and jejunal ulcers
- Pernicious anemia
- Vagotomy
- Atrophic gastritis
- Helicobacter pylori infection
- Gastric obstruction
- Gastrinoma
- Recurrent or refractory ulcer disease
- Gastric hypertrophy and ulcers
- Pituitary disease
- Ulcers and diarrhea
- Hypercalcemia and ulcers
- Gastric cancer
- MEN1 syndrome
- Kidney stones
