"Loads of the Ah, wells and none of the what ifs"

Wipe that sweat off your foreheads, fellow freshmen, for we have arrived! The nail biting uncertainty of the past four years, the MCAT woes and all that drama about waiting for the list to finally be uploaded and reveal our one true destiny is past us. Yes. 2013 is past us. And here we are, walking in awe as we still struggle to grasp the fact that yes, indeed, we are here at Allama Iqbal Medical College.
How about that, huh? It really has begun. Our own special journey: on our ways to becoming daacter sahabs. It's surreal; don't tell me you still don't accidentally say Allah gee please MCAT ma top mai he karun. I know I do.

To all our seniors reading this: Some of you may find this nostalgic (Oh I remember when I first came here) while some of you may be scoffing with condescension (not another freshie rant please). Tell me this though: Do you remember walking through the doors of this college the very first time? Roaming through the hostels (for all you, err, lucky hostellites) for the very first time? Idling in front of the Shaheen Mall for the very first time? (When is that pizza place reopening anyway? Just saying.) And oh, using the phrase "UDL" for the very first time? I could go on and on. Those might be memories for you, but they are life events for us. So please bear with our apparently nonsensical enthusiasm. *wink*

New white coats ka swag aside, they sure know how to drop a bombshell on the meek, new, unacquainted-to-the-mean-ways-of-the-world-of-medical-colleges students. The First Substage. Instead of discovering the whereabouts of the college and chilling in the canteen, the freshies resorted to the library (why is it so quiet in there?) and indulged in group study (who are we kidding even?). The charm wore off in the last few days before the substage, while everyone frantically tried to memorize as much as they could from the notorious laal kitaab (If you know what I mean).

Meanwhile, every hostellite struggled to gulp down the oh so delicious food in the mess. The Prayer Hall girls learnt to live their life as if they were out camping. I personally gave someone a tutorial on how to use the shower. (Don't lock, clothes on top of the door means occupied, the works.) And oh! The chirping around when everyone saw the freshly arrived geysers! Priceless, I tell ya!

So here we are. Getting comfortable in this new place where we have much to look forward to. Making friends, forming memories, weaving dreams. Here we are. A new chapter of our lives. Learning to groan about the things we would groan about for the next five years. Learning to love and appreciate the things we would be loving and appreciating the next five years. Scared, are you? Bubbling with excitement and anticipation as well? Well, I am too. Let's do this. Let's make these years a time to be nostalgic about fifteen years from now. Loads of the Ah, wells and none of the what ifs. Let's do this.

'Hahaha.. Trust us things will get better with time. Stay ambitious and keep praying like that. And Indian authors have done a meticulous job with that red book. Our teachers are a bit jealous. No offense. Your article was a delight to read.'

How to get a bonafide student certificate from Allama Iqbal Medical College?

A bonafide certificate confirms your enrollment and active participation in a program at an institute. If you need a bonafide certificate for any reason, you can go to the admin office with your latest result card copy, your student id card photocopy, your latest photograph and an application for the request. You will have the certificate in less than four days.

Mania; ulterior motives?

Fourth year is going to take the third professional examinations on Oct 19, 2013. Yeah! And you all know that Eid ul Azha is on Oct 16, 2013. Doesn’t seem real? It is! Icing on the cake is the attitude of some people on a facebook group named Medical Mania of UHS batch 2009-14. The admins of that group have failed to tackle the false reporting/approving by some of the members without any grounds. The group has been very beneficial to me personally and I totally give the credit to the managers for uniting us. I admire their efforts. The thing is that for about five days, it has been distracting the hard working souls who find time to study only in the last few days before the exam. It is cruel! Rumors false reports about the delay of exams has cost about three days of almost every member of that group that is about 2500 people enrolled in different private and public medical colleges around Punjab. All the members are persistently being trolled by some ‘keeras’ who don’t want anyone to study. Most of the students have joined that group to find exam guidance but it is really proving to be detrimental to the studies lately. Some of such ridiculously distracting posts are:

This is the most recent post from our CR:

Another recent post from our class fellow comes to the rescue and states:

I think we'd have to trust our class mates and study now. It’s commendable what Mania people are doing but they should also be able to deal with the distracting douche bags. We don’t have to listen to them. I’d say just log out and have your admittance card received! You are stronger than that! We are stronger than that!

'It was a pleasure reading your article you made your points quite clear. It would be really difficult for you to study on Eid but as you said, we are stronger than that. May Allah bless you all with more strength and success in the exams!'

Go first article!

Thank God ! This blog, though incomplete to date, is such a relief. I’d be happy to write two or three articles per week. Small issues are not dealt with in right time here at AIMC. Mostly we find no way to share our concerns about different happenings in the college. The CRs and the professors decide our fates and most of the class are ignored in making important decisions. There is NO communication between the professors and the other students (not CRs I mean).

Students are afraid to open their mouths in front of the teachers even if there is a genuine problem. At least I can’t and I know majority of the population doesn’t. In fact most of the professors are happy to deal with issues of the students. Emotions are not expressed till the end point is reached when problems get complicated for both the administration and the students. There are so many problems that need to be solved in time.

I hope this blog will let us express our feelings in every small matter and would be able to bring us out of constant distress and anxiety. I am also positive that the blog will be a way to communicate with the professors and their staff and of course the CRs for that matter. I’m grateful to everyone who contributed towards the development of this blog.

Finally I’d salute the person who came up with the name aimcites. Iqbalian just didn't sound right.
